Do I need to apply for a building permit for my kit?

Our construction kits are structural measures. Depending on building regulations, size of plot or building, border distances, etc., you may need a building application. To ensure that the planned item is approved, submit the appropriate technical data sheet/building description for the preliminary building application to your building authority.

The data sheets can be found with the products at www.skanholz.com.

How do I get the structural analysis for the building application?

With the purchase of the kit, we will provide you with a structural analysis upon request. You can also request the structural analysis from us in advance for a deposit amount. We will refund the deposit amount after receipt of the order or in case of a written rejection of your building application.

Please email inquiries to info@skanholz.com.

Is there any help with the building application?

German building owners can commission the Wohlgemuth engineering office to submit the building application against payment of a fee:

How does the delivery take place?

If delivery free curbside is included in the scope of delivery, delivery will be made by 40t truck.
Prerequisite for this is that the unloading location (mainland) is accessible on a road that can be accessed and unloaded by 40t truck.

The shipping company will contact you and notify the delivery. Otherwise, the delivery will be made to your dealer.

Where are the size as well as the weight of the package noted?

The data sheets for our products include the size and weight of the package.
The data sheet can be downloaded from our website www.skanholz.com.

What must be considered when storing the kit package?

The package must be protected from rain and sunlight and stored on a flat surface. The packaging film alone is not sufficient as rain protection, as it may be damaged during transport.

In order to avoid delays during assembly, check all parts of the kit against the position list inside in good time before starting assembly or before commissioning an assembly company.

Then stack the parts level, dry and protected from sunlight and heat, and thus store them temporarily until assembly begins.

Is a foundation needed?

Yes! A foundation is required to guarantee the load-bearing capacity shown in the documentation.

What is the need for a foundation?

It is used to absorb all the loads that occur: wind pressure and suction, snow load and changes in the subsoil due to frost.

What should the foundation look like?
Assembly instructions are included with each kit. Part of these assembly instructions is the individually tailored foundation plan.
How do I get the foundation plan?

The foundation plan can be downloaded with assembly instructions on our website www.skanholz.com for each product.

Does the wood need to be painted?

As a rule, yes. This depends on the type of wood in the kit. Please follow the care instructions in the catalog or in the assembly documents. Individual wood care instructions are given there.

Do kits treated with color ex works still need to be painted?

It can be assembled immediately. Cut edges and screwed joints can be repaired using the enclosed repair quantity of paint.

Depending on the kit untreated roof undersides protruding outside, must be painted on site. This paint is not included.

Please note the further care instructions also for subsequent protective coatings in the assembly documents.

Can I build the kit on my own?

All kits are designed as do-it-yourself kits. Anyone who knows how to use a cordless screwdriver, hammer and the like can dare to assemble the kit. However, depending on the size of the kit and the components, at least one helper should be planned in.

Are assembly instructions included with the kit?

Each kit comes with assembly instructions, which can also be downloaded in advance at www.skanholz.com.

What tools do I need for the assembly?

Cordless screwdriver, drill and drill bits for wood and stone, jigsaw or hand-held circular saw, ladder, hammer and, of course, things like folding ruler, wrench, nail clippers, paintbrush, etc.

Are all screws included with the kits?

All screws for assembling the kit are included. For garden houses, heavy-duty anchors are still required for doweling onto the foundation.

For patio roofs, the fastening material into the house wall is not included.

How to attach a garden shed to the foundation?

According to the statics, the base bearings of the house are fixed to the foundation with heavy-duty anchors. Their diameter is 12 mm, the length is 120 mm, base bearings running under the walls are fixed at a distance of 60 cm, base bearings running at right angles to walls are fixed at least 1x at the beginning and at the end.

The heavy duty anchors are not included in the delivery of the house.

What is the actual weight per unit area behind the snow load information in the catalog?

According to the standard, the snow load is specified in kN/m². As a rule of thumb, multiply this value by 100 to obtain the rough kg/m² value of the permissible additional weight per unit area.

How do I find out the regional snow load at my location?

Ask your local building authority about this.

What is the inside dimension of the garden houses?

The dimensions given are plinth dimensions - simply subtract the wall thickness all around.

Can the door or window position be changed in garden houses?

The windows and door cutouts are already included in the kit. Simple shifting is therefore not possible.

However, with the CLASSIC and the colorless TREND models, the door and window positions can be mounted mirrored within a wall in the case of asymmetrical front design.
However, the original opening direction (Li / Re) of the elements remains the same. For CrossCube models, the door position cannot be changed.

For the 45plus and 70plus models, please request this individually.

How are garden sheds roofed?

The roofs of the garden sheds must be covered with a durable, weather-resistant material suitable for the roof pitch. Depending on the roof pitch, this can be bitumen shingles or a self-adhesive bitumen membrane (KSK-M membrane). The catalog and our website will help you find out what is specifically suitable for your garden shed. The suitable material and the required quantity are specified there. For some models (e.g. CrossCube or TrendPlus), the KSK-M membrane is already included in the scope of delivery as the final covering.

Do I have to pay special attention to the internal wind bracing (threaded rod) of the CLASSIC models?

Yes. The threaded rods must not rest on the foundation. The threaded rods must be retightened after one season and shortened at the bottom. After that, they are almost maintenance-free.

Can rain gutters be attached to garden sheds?

Rain gutters can be installed on site. For houses with a recognizable slope on the eaves side, please work with adjustable slope gutter brackets.

In houses with a flat roof, there is a space between the fascia board and the roof boards - a rain gutter can be placed there. Fasten gutter brackets from the inside to the fascia board or from below to the roof boards.

Can I insulate garden houses?

We offer various solutions for this. The TRENDplus models include depending on the version selected already include the insulation material for the roof and walls. For the 45plus and 70plus series, the floor and, depending on the floor and, depending on the version selected, the roof can also be can also be insulated.

Can I put roof tiles on garden houses?

Roofing with roof tiles is possible for selected models with higher snow loads. Please note the information in the catalog.

Are special sizes available?

Please use our online configurator for this purpose. There, special designs can be planned (special designs differ from catalog models with regard to manufacturing and construction).

Can I lay bitumen shingles on a house with a flat roof?

Bitumen shingles require a minimum roof pitch of 11° due to the way they are laid. A lower roof pitch cannot guarantee tightness, as water could get between the overlapping strips. For this reason, we specify a fully self-adhesive bitumen membrane (KSK-M membrane) as a possible permanent covering for roofs with a lower pitch.

Can I install closed walls in pavilions?

Alternative walls, e.g. wall elements can be installed in pavilions. The clear distances between posts are given in the catalog. On the basis of them it is possible to determine the size.

When installing closed wall elements, there is no need to install the headbands of the wall in question.

Is roofing felt included with pavilions with wooden roofing?

Roofing felt is not included for pavilions with wooden roof, the optional bitumen roof shingles are laid directly on the roof boards of the pointed roof pavilions.

For the Toulouse pavilion, lay either on-site welded membrane or optionally available KSK-M roofing membrane.

Can the screw-on supports included in the kit be exchanged for H-anchors?

This is possible, please request a quote from us.

Are special sizes available?

Please use our online configurator for this purpose . There, special designs can be planned (special designs differ from catalog models with regard to manufacturing and construction).

The specified heights at the back of the wall do not fit. The roofing would have to be higher.

Use the optionally available replacement posts for this purpose. This is a factory-made post extension, the posts are delivered longer by your desired dimension. Please refer to the catalog notes for maximum lengths.

The specified heights at the back of the wall do not fit. The roofing should be lower

The roofing should be lower. Shorten the posts accordingly on site, or select a different roofing. The roof pitch should not be changed for design reasons.

Are special sizes available?

Please use our online configurator for this purpose . There, special designs can be planned (special designs differ from catalog models with regard to manufacturing and construction).

The customer has a finished concrete surface. He can not use the anchors included in the kit for setting in concrete.

On request, we can also supply H-anchors for dowelling. They have a plate of approx. 20 x 20 cm and correspond to the original anchors in terms of stability.

Please ask us about a replacement and the associated additional costs.

How is the optional snow load increase technically implemented?

Additional rafters or gable triangles are supplied. The basic construction remains unchanged.

Can I shorten a standard carport myself or build it narrower?

This is possible with most carports. Here please concretely with us under info@skanholz.com ask.

How is the roof slope of approx. 2% created for carports with flat or hipped roofs?

By shortening the posts on site. This also allows level differences in the substrate to be compensated.

My driveway has a steep slope to the street, can I build a flat roof carport with a slope to the front?

This is possible with many carports. Here please concretely with us under info@skanholz.com to inquire.

Can carports with flat or hipped roofs also be sloped to the side?

Due to the shape of the roof panel, as well as the fascia construction, this is not possible. The rain gutter can only ever be attached to the front end.

Are special sizes available?

Please use our online configurator for this purpose . Special designs can be planned there. (Special designs differ from catalog models with regard to production and construction).

What do I do if the configurator does not respond?

The configurator is designed for all common browsers and end devices. Common causes for a blocked configurator are firewall settings, the use of Internet Explorer (IE 11 or smaller from Mircosoft) or outdated browser versions.

Why can't I configure a product from the catalog?

The configurator is not for customizing standard products, but is to be understood as an independent design as well as planning program. No special designs are offered for standard kits.

Why are there limitations with the configurator?

All statically possible designs, sizes and dimensions as well as combinations and materials are stored in the configurator. All wishes that cannot be selected or combined can therefore not be offered.

I still have small change requests (e.g. post position or roof overhangs), but cannot implement them in the configurator?

Please send us the planning number so that we can check and clarify change requests for feasibility.

How are complaints handled?

Due to the natural building material wood, individual production or transport damage, complaints cannot be completely avoided. In order to help you quickly and easily, either contact your dealer or direct the complaint to us.

For this purpose, please note the following when making a complaint:
Please send proof of purchase (e.g. order/invoice) and packing protocol with claimed quantities of the parts as well as a short description of the damage: E-mail: info@skanholz.com
Claimed parts will be delivered to the original delivery address as soon as possible. In order to get an overview of damage events in individual cases, we ask you to send us photos by e-mail (info@skanholz.com).
E-mail size not larger than 10 MB.

Please understand that we cannot accept every complaint as a claim. Please observe the instructions in the assembly instructions regarding the natural behavior of the wood as well as the storage, processing and assembly of the kit.

Is there a guarantee?

At SKAN HOLZ you will receive a 5-year warranty on wood, construction and stability when properly installed and maintained according to our warranty promisewhich you can find at www.skanholz.com.
