Primer: The basic protection

If your wood product is not impregnated or pre-treated at the factory, it is absolutely necessary to apply the primer yourself. The primer is the optimal protection against insects and mold. Before priming, clean the wood surface.

Brush out, now comes the painting

After priming, apply the first coat of paint. In any case, observe the respective manufacturer's specifications. At least one additional coat is now required (even for products pretreated by us with color). Experience shows that renovation coats are often postponed - so it is better to apply one or two additional coats at the same time.

Cleaning, maintenance and renovation painting

Regular care and cleaning of your kit is important to keep your building in good shape and to give you a lot of pleasure even after years. Generally, with the natural material wood, it must be remembered that it can be attacked by environmental influences such as sunlight, weathering and green cover. The good news, however, is that maintenance and renovation are easy. When the surface begins to gray or is attacked or damaged, renovation becomes necessary.

Before the renovation paint

It is best to start with a hand brush and use it to clean the surfaces once. Thoroughly wash off any green coatings. Important: We strongly advise against using a high-pressure cleaner, as there is a risk of damaging the grain of the wood. The dried surface is then sanded. We recommend sandpaper with a grain size of approx. 120

The renovation painting

How often you should repaint your garden shed depends on its location. If it is very exposed to the weather, painting every two years is recommended. If your garden shed is more sheltered, repainting every four years is sufficient. Ultimately, however, it is of course also down to your personal taste: do you want the garden shed to show its age or should it always look like new? Whatever you choose to do, it is important to clean and sand it before each coat of paint so that the new layer of paint adheres perfectly to the wood.
Special features of Douglas fir:
Douglas fir is resistant to insects and fungal infestation due to the resins and oils contained in the wood. If the Douglas fir is not treated with stains, a silvery-grey patina forms on the surface over time. Natural protection against environmental influences without the need for costly wood care.
Special features of our CrossCube series cladding panels:
Like a house façade, the cladding panels require regular painting to compensate for the effects of weathering. Weathering, efflorescence, small cracks or green deposits, which also occur on house façades, are possible.
