Do I have to submit a building application for my kit?

Our construction kits are structural measures. Depending on the building regulations, plot or building size, boundary distances, etc., you may require a building application. To ensure that the planned item is approved, submit the appropriate technical data sheet/building description to your building authority for a preliminary building application.

The data sheets can be found with the products at www.skanholz.com.

How do I get the structural analysis for the building application?

When you purchase the kit, we will provide you with a structural analysis on request. You can also request the structural analysis from us in advance for a deposit. We will refund the deposit after receipt of the order or if your building application is rejected in writing.

Please send inquiries by e-mail to info@skanholz.com.

Is there help with the building application?

German building owners can commission the engineering office Wohlgemuth to submit the building application for a fee:

How is the delivery made?

If delivery free kerbside is included in the scope of delivery, delivery is made by 40t truck.
The prerequisite for this is that the unloading location (mainland) is accessible on a road that can be driven on and unloaded by a 40t truck.

The forwarding agent will contact you and notify you of the delivery. Otherwise the delivery will be made to your dealer.

Where are the size and weight of the parcel noted?

The data sheets for our products include the size and weight of the package.
The data sheet can be downloaded from our website www.skanholz.com.

What must be observed when storing the kit pack?

The package must be protected from rain and sunlight and stored on a flat surface. The packaging film alone is not sufficient as rain protection, as it could be damaged during transportation.

To avoid delays during assembly, check all parts of the kit in good time before starting assembly or before commissioning an assembly company using the item list inside.

Then stack the parts flat, dry and protected from sunlight and heat and store them temporarily until assembly begins.

Is a foundation required?

Yes, a foundation is required to guarantee the load-bearing capacity stated in the documents.

Why is a foundation needed?

It is used to absorb all loads: wind pressure and suction, snow load and changes in the subsoil due to frost.

What should the foundation look like?
Assembly instructions are included with each kit. The individually tailored foundation plan is part of these assembly instructions.
How do I get the foundation plan?

The foundation plan with assembly instructions can be downloaded from our website www.skanholz.com for each product.

Does the wood need to be painted?

As a rule, yes. This depends on the type of wood in the kit. Please follow the care instructions in the catalog or in the assembly documents. Individual wood care instructions are given there.

Do factory-colored kits still need to be painted?

It can be assembled immediately. Cut edges and screw points can be repaired using the enclosed repair quantity of paint.

Depending on the kit, untreated roof undersides protruding from the outside must be painted on site. This paint is not included.

Please also observe the further care instructions for subsequent protective coatings in the assembly documents.

Can I assemble the kit on my own?

All kits are designed as self-assembly kits. Anyone who knows how to use a cordless screwdriver, hammer and the like can get started with the assembly. However, depending on the size of the kit and components, you should plan for at least one helper.

Are assembly instructions included with the kit?

Each kit comes with assembly instructions, which can also be downloaded in advance at www.skanholz.com.

What tools do I need for assembly?

Cordless screwdriver, drill and drill bits for wood and stone, jigsaw or circular saw, ladder, hammer and of course things like folding rule, wrench, nail pliers, paintbrush etc.

Are all the screws included with the kits?

All screws for assembling the kit are included. For garden sheds, heavy-duty anchors are also required for doweling onto the foundation.

For patio roofs, the fixing material to the house wall is not included.

How is a garden shed attached to the foundation?

According to the structural analysis, the base supports of the house are fastened to the foundation with heavy-duty anchors. They have a diameter of 12 mm and a length of 120 mm, base supports running under the walls are fastened at intervals of 60 cm, and base supports running at right angles to the walls are fastened at least once at the beginning and at the end.

The heavy-duty anchors are not included with the house.

What is the actual basis weight behind the snow load information in the catalog?

The snow load is specified in kN/m² according to the standard. As a rule of thumb, multiply this value by 100 to obtain the approximate kg/m² value of the permissible additional surface weight.

How do I find out the regional snow load in my area?

Ask your local building authority about this.

What are the internal dimensions of the garden sheds?

The dimensions given are plinth dimensions - simply subtract the wall thickness all the way around.

Can the door or window position of garden sheds be changed?

The windows and door cut-outs are already included in the kit. It is therefore not possible to simply move them.

With the CLASSIC and the untreated TREND models, however, the door and window positions can be mirrored within a wall if the front design is asymmetrical.
However, the original opening direction (Li / Re) of the elements remains the same. The door position cannot be changed for CrossCube models.

For the 45plus and 70plus models, please request this individually.

How are garden sheds roofed?

The roofs of the garden sheds must be covered with a durable, weather-resistant material suitable for the roof pitch. Depending on the roof pitch, this can be bitumen shingles or a self-adhesive bitumen membrane (KSK-M membrane). The catalog and our website will help you find out what is specifically suitable for your garden shed. The suitable material and the required quantity are specified there. For some models (e.g. CrossCube or TrendPlus), the KSK-M membrane is already included in the scope of delivery as the final covering.

Do I have to pay attention to anything special with the internal wind bracing (threaded rod) of the CLASSIC models?

Yes, the threaded rods must not rest on the foundation. The threaded rods must be retightened after one season and shortened at the bottom. After that, they are virtually maintenance-free.

Can rain gutters be attached to garden sheds?

Rain gutters can be installed on site. For houses with a recognizable slope on the eaves side, please work with adjustable slope gutter brackets.

In houses with a flat roof, there is a gap between the fascia board and the roof boards - a gutter can be placed there. Attach the gutter bracket to the fascia board from the inside or to the roof boards from below.

Can I insulate garden sheds?

We offer various solutions for this. The TRENDplus models include depending on the version selected already include the insulation material for the roof and walls. For the 45plus and 70plus series, the floor and, depending on the floor and, depending on the version selected, the roof can also be can also be insulated.

Can I put roof tiles on garden sheds?

Roofing with tiles is possible for selected models with a higher snow load. Please follow the instructions in the catalog.

Are special sizes available?

Please use our online configurator for this purpose. Custom-made products can be planned there (custom-made products differ from catalog models in terms of production and design).

Can I lay bitumen shingles on a house with a flat roof?

Bitumen shingles require a minimum roof pitch of 11° due to the way they are laid. A lower roof pitch cannot guarantee tightness, as water could get between the overlapping strips. For this reason, we specify a full-surface self-adhesive bitumen membrane (KSK-M membrane) as a possible permanent covering for roofs with a lower pitch.

Can I install closed walls in pavilions?

Alternative walls, e.g. wall elements, can be installed in pavilions. The clear post spacing is specified in the catalog. These can be used to determine the size.

When installing closed wall elements, there is no need to install the head hinges of the wall in question.

Is roofing felt included for gazebos with wooden roofing?

Roofing felt is not included for gazebos with a wooden roof; the optional bitumen roof shingles are laid directly on the roof boards of the pointed roof gazebos.

For the Toulouse pavilion, you can either lay the welded membrane on site or the optionally available KSK-M roof membrane.

Are special sizes available?

Please use our online configurator for this purpose . Custom-made products can be planned there (custom-made products differ from catalog models in terms of production and design).

The specified heights at the back of the wall do not fit. The roofing should be higher.

Use the optionally available replacement posts. This is a factory-fitted post extension, the posts are supplied longer by your desired length. Please note the catalog information on maximum lengths.

The specified heights at the back of the wall do not fit. The roofing should be lower

The canopy should be lower. Shorten the posts accordingly on site or select a different roof. The roof pitch should not be changed for structural reasons.

Are special sizes available?

Please use our online configurator for this purpose . Custom-made products can be planned there (custom-made products differ from catalog models in terms of production and design).

The customer has a finished concrete surface. He cannot use the anchors included in the kit for setting in concrete.

We also supply H-anchors for doweling on request. They have a plate of approx. 20 x 20 cm and correspond to the original anchors in terms of stability.

Please ask us about replacement and the associated additional costs.

How is the optional snow load increase technically implemented?

Additional rafters or gable triangles are supplied. The basic construction remains unchanged.

Can I shorten a standard carport myself or make it narrower?

This is possible with most carports. Please contact us specifically at info@skanholz.com to inquire.

How is the slope of the roof of approx. 2% created for carports with flat or hipped roofs?

By shortening the posts on site. This can also compensate for level differences in the substrate.

My driveway has a steep slope to the road, can I also build a flat roof carport with a slope to the front?

This is possible with many carports. Please contact us specifically at info@skanholz.com to inquire.

Can carports with flat or hipped roofs also be sloped to the side?

This is not possible due to the shape of the roof panel and the fascia construction. The rain gutter can only ever be fitted at the front end.

Are special sizes available?

Please use our online configurator for this purpose . Special designs can be planned there. (Custom-made products differ from catalog models in terms of production and design)

What do I do if the configurator does not respond?

The configurator is designed for all common browsers and end devices. Common causes for a blocked configurator are the settings of firewalls, the use of Internet Explorer (IE 11 or lower from Microsoft) or outdated browser versions.

Why can't I configure a product from the catalog?

The configurator is not intended for adapting standard products, but as an independent design and planning program. No custom-made products are offered for standard kits.

Why are there limitations in the configurator?

All statically possible designs, sizes and dimensions as well as combinations and materials are stored in the configurator. All requests that cannot be selected or combined can therefore not be offered.

I still have small change requests (e.g. post position or roof overhangs), but can't implement them in the configurator?

Please send us the planning number so that we can check and clarify the feasibility of any change requests.

How are complaints processed?
